Patricks host broker seminar - (18 May 2010)

On Tuesday 18th May, Towergate Patrick hosted their first care themed seminar in the Towergate offices in Leadenhall Street. Our supporting brokers gathered to network, enjoy lunch, and hear talks from Sue Lee MD of Patricks, Steve Coates Head of Property & Casualty for Allianz UK, Mark Waters, Senior Underwriter at Abbey Legal Protection and Peter Stanniland, Independent risk management and registration consultant.

We wanted to provide informative sessions that would enable our brokers to understand our passion for what we do and, ultimately, find out more about our offering and how we can help them and their clients.

Steve Coates gave an overview of Allianz, the type of sectors and risks they write business for and, importantly, why they work with Towergate Patrick and what they can offer the care sector over and above competitors in the market.

After a brief break and the opportunity to raise some money for our chosen charity, Cancer Research, Peter Stanniland spoke candidly about his first hand experience in the sector and what should be done to safeguard the interests of registered providers in the UK care sector.  Peter spoke about some truly shocking cases whereby committed care providers had been let down by a system designed only to protect the service users and, as a result, have lost their business, and in some cases their liberty, because regulators do not understand the ever-changing legislation.

Expanding on the theme of employment law, Mark Waters spoke of how Abbey Legal, along with Allianz, provide the insurance to back-up the advisory service provided by Peter.  He ran through the legal expenses offering and went on to discuss why care-providers need legal expenses insurance, what the LEI does, and how we do it differently.

To round up the morning our speakers and key members of the team, including our in-house underwriters, were on-hand to answer questions.

An informal lunch followed at a local watering hole and, in the spirit of Towergate, we raised £260 to go towards our sponsorship of the Patricks’ team running in the Royal Parks half marathon in October, all in aid of Cancer Research.
